I have been here 3 times and everytime was a super fast and easy transaction. Everytime I go its gets better and faster. Compared to dealing with the DMV, there is no comparison.
The staff was courteous and extremely knowledgable on what needed to be done in transferring titles and issuing new plates.

The wait was short, each time.

Only advice is if you think you might have a difficult transaction, bring everything document wise. I thought I might of had a confusion issue so I brought everything involved. That happened to me and I didn’t need to come back. Once I didn’t have a copy if my insurance and they were nice enough to contact them and have a copy emailed to them while I was there to avoid another trip. Super cool

A-flippin’ amazing! 3 hours at the OMV or 30 minutes at ABC Title…hmmmmmm…..

I was so overwhelmed with the whole registering an out-of-state car thing that I decided that I would begrudgingly attack my seemingly mile-long list of things to gather for the OMV. While wandering from notary public to notary public to get my title and bill of sale ok’d, each time being told that they don’t do auto transactions, someone mentioned that there are auto notaries ABC Title. They did not tell me that this was an OMV shortcut…what a relief!

All they needed was my title, proof of insurance and my driver’s license. They took care of all of the paperwork for me and I just signed on the dotted line! The fees for registering, getting a new title and lousy penalty tax for not getting my title notarized in NY before I moved here (oops….but who knew?!) came to just $162! If you came from another state it may even be cheaper. Once I got my receipt I walked away with my fancy pelican license plate and I was free to roam the streets in less time than it takes to watch a Full House episode (if you don’t fast-forward through the commercials). The staff was personable, fast and competent, too. Try finding THAT at the OMV!

When asked about Louisiana’s No. 1 ranking, two insurance agents there said they were disappointed but not surprised. And they had a ready explanation: the state’s court system.

In Louisiana, only cases with claims in excess of $50,000 get a jury trial. “You see lots of settlements at $49,000,” explains Duane Dimattia of Baton Rouge, a director of the Professional Insurance Agents of Louisiana. That sweetens the pot for seeking a claim against an at-fault driver and insurance firms pay the tab.

With the state’s judges elected rather than appointed, those settlements tend to cater to the public more than they do to legal facts, asserts Richard Clements, a past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Greater New Orleans.

While an estimated 125,000 vehicles were crushed at Louisiana junkyards in the wake of 2005′s Hurricane Katrina, Clements says that is not a factor in the state’s high rates. “We cannot point our finger at Katrina on that, although they can point to it for lots of other things.”
